Doctors and other professionals who treat patients...

Doctors and other professionals who treat patients in good faith who work for or at Cedar Park Regional Medical Center should take a good close look at their institution's billing practices.

In my considered opinion, Cedar Park Regional Medical Center is taking every advantage of the monopoly power they wield and trying to increase that power by hiding pricing from consumers of medical services.

If you are a customer of CPRMC you should, in my opinion, seek medical services from another provider as CPRMC will do everything in their power to hide and obfuscate the amounts that they and their doctors will bill.

Whether it's an ER visit or a pre-scheduled procedure, in my experience, Cedar Park Regional MC will make it virtually impossible to know how much you should expect to be billed.

This morning, my wife (an immigrant) is getting a scorching run-around from CPRMC on how much a procedure will cost that was scheduled days ago for next week. My sense is that they don't take her questions very seriously because she has an accent and they don't feel a need to be very responsive to her questioning.

At the same time my wife's on the phone with them, I open an envelope to a bill from CPRMC Emergency Room for THOUSANDS of dollars for 1 visit. So I get on the phone with them and finally get an billing agent.

The CPRMC representative tells me that only the doctor and the patient would know what services were performed that day and that she doesn't have that info. She can't explain to me a bill for over $5,000.

I complain to her that every time I'm there, they can't tell me how much something is going to cost. She gives me a lame lecture about the obvious reason: In an ER, they don't know what services will be required, so naturally they can't tell you how much it's going to cost. (Like I'm an idiot ... every time I've asked how much the bill will be as we're leaving the ER, they still cannot tell me.)

Never mind that same phone rep JUST told me she couldn't explain a $5,000 from months ago.

I'm about to have my wife call and cancel the procedure scheduled for next Tues. We can take our business elsewhere.
