First Steps is one of the programs provided in this building. It's a pity some people think that it's just a place for dropping kids so they can "learn". This is a place for parent involvement, kids can really enhance their skills WITH the assistance of parents by using a huge variety of resources that this preschool offers. First Steps classes are also full of interesting ideas and it's a program constantly challenging itself. Just check Jump into Speech classes!, they are great for kids starting to talk. First Steps is far from an independent class and it's not like a playgroup at the public library since it's not driven by a storyteller in a open auditorium. The staff is quite good, professional. This building also host Early Childhood Special Education Classes, the Early-On program and regular preschool classes for low income families. It's true that kids are allowed to play even when it's cold but my experience is that most of the kids keep themselves warm by running and jumping at the playground. These are Michigan kids! For most of the kids, gloves and warm clothes are provided while playing but many of them don't use them.
