My sister, a recently diagnosed ALL pt found herself in the ER for an infection 5 days after she was discharged from UMMC. The attending here paged her oncologist during normal business hrs twice and no return call was made. I called myself at 6:44 pm and spoke to a gentleman who left a message for the Oncologist. My complaint is not geared toward that oncologist, it is towards RENE the supervisor in the pt assistance hotline. I called at 8:10 pm asking if the onclogist spoke to the attending as we are still in the ER after 10 hrs. I explained that the attending called twice and I specifically spoke to a gentleman who had the oncologist paged. She said there was no page made. By this point she seemed irritated. I told her it was to Dr. Law. She then said, well that's why she is not here ! I explained that no one told me that and to ck her records It documentation of any calls were made, she became a little loud and irritated with me and not helpful at all. I asked well who should I speak to and rather than explaining what I should do, she said I could not page the oncologist myself that it had to be the Physician herself. I said ok, let me get her. She waited for less than 2 min and then hung up on me!! I hope UMMC records their calls so they can see how a supervisor performs her job. She would also not disclose her last name or her managers name and just told me to call the office if I had a complaint. There is definitely a disconnect between the office and the after hrs pt assistance as we never received a call back and no records kept that the Dr. was paged. Again not geared toward the oncologist as they may have never received all 3 calls that were made to speak to them.
