George Koshy Review of Sheraton Vistana Resort

Overall positive impression. We belong to the Marriott Vacation club so the experience is similar. All the positives of a vacation club (relative to hotels) hold: much larger residences, ability to buy groceries and use a full fledged kitchen to take care of at least some of your meals, family activities, etc. One uniquely positive attribute about this resort was that the free internet was quite good (I measured 15 mbps, which is more than I'm used to for such establishments). For a week long stay it is much more comfortable than hotel, especially for a whole family.
However there are drawbacks. Some of them are common to most vacation club resorts. Among the major ones - Usually the resorts are not as conveniently located as hotels and the restaurants on premise are normally the fast food variety and not where you can have a good meal. I'm going to mention a few drawbacks that are unique to this resort. However, I should clarify that these are relatively minor in an overall positive view, as seen by my overall rating. Also in some of the cases, it's just a function of the nature of this resort and not a shortfall on the part of management.
o It's big, probably a bit too big. From certain units it could be a 15 minute walk to the reception area. This is partly due to the reception area being at one end rather than more centrally located. However you can call for a cart to be driven to other parts of the resort.
o It doesn't have any natural beauty. It's not in the middle of mountains, on a beach, or even on a golf course. Just a few ponds / mini lakes. Then again, probably about all one can expect in Orlando.
o No elevators, even if you are in a third floor unit. Would mostly matter when you move in or out or if you have limited mobility.
o In our master bedroom, there were very few outlets. In today's world with all the gadgets that need charging, this is something that ought to be addressed.
o We attended the 90 minute sales pitch to learn about the Sheraton Vacation club. Compared to the Marriott Vacation club meetings we've been to over the years, this was much less refined.
But again these are relatively minor drawbacks. We wanted a nice, comfortable respite from the New York cold and we have definitely got that.
