I am a new patron. I was assured that the system would notify me of due dates. Also, it was to offer an option to renew. I have checked out many items and returned them w/o an issue. However, one item had an email notice that warned of an upcoming due date and asked if I wanted to renew. I did. There was no response. I replied that there was no response. I sent a second email about that non response. I have been levied a fine. What is the point of email messages if you are not going to interact with the patron?
