This school is abosolutely horrible. My son had been attending since they were at the 10th Street West location. I immediately took my son out of the school because I was tired of getting phone calls every other day for him getting detention. He got detention for the smallest of things. All they want to do is throw kids in detention for talking and getting out of their seat. Not for fighting, being disrespectful or anything of that nature. The teachers don't have the patience to deal with children who need extra help. My son is one of those students. Teachers come and go and are always dropping like fly's. I took him out of that school in October of 2015 immediately and placed him in another school. He was struggling and behind. Today Oct 26th, 2016 I had a parent teacher conference and the teacher had nothing but positive things to say about my son. He got As, Bs and Es. She understands that he needs extra help and that is what teaching is all about. I emailed Dr. (I don't know if she even has the credentials to be called so) Culpepper regarding my concerns before I withdrew my son and she never responded. If you click on the link of their school report card and you will see that they rank very low compared to the district and the state, 62% of their students are African American and 33% are Hispanic/Latino and only 20% of the African American population are scoring at either proficient or advanced level and 67% of Hispanic and Latino are. I inquired several times about after school tutoring, when they moved to the new location no response. But they always offered, for a fee, childcare before school and during the Christmas and spring breaks. I know plenty of people that have taken their children out for the same reasons, and I run into people that have the same gripes. Funding should be taken away and given to a school that actually teaches children
