The sad and simple truth is that this once state-of-the-art masterpiece has long since become a dump. It's overdo for an acquisition clean sweep of personnel (if there is any more market demand for this obsolete concept). Just like you should never let a jersey jackass tell you he's from NY or some upstate Westchester wannabe claim the city, you shouldn't accept the excuse that poor management, lazy work ethic and culture justify griminess and bad value.

The hotel industry has improved by leaps and bounds. There are infinite old venues that are well-maintained and updated with amenities like wifi, central heat and air. Not Mohonk. Claiming charm is pathetic and an insult to the places that actually take the effort to do charm right.

The area is beautiful. The facility is worth checking out, but not worth dropping one cent on a stay. You'd do much better finding a quality bed and breakfast.

This is like 1970s NYC claiming its decay as grit and charm. Since the 1990s, we've seen NYC done right. One can only hope Mohonk will come around, but don't hold your breath. While some of Hudson Valley has become a regional destination, New Paltz is too far away from the city and too cramped for wilderness solitude. It's the worst of both worlds: bitchy attitudes, nowheresville boredom.
