If you say you're going to phone someone back and will try to quickly get them in for an interview, do it!

It's totally disrespectful to just cut off contact like nothing, when you've already stated that you will be getting back shortly. Even if you changed your mind and decided that someone wasn't suitable, or if another applicant was chosen instead, at least have the courtesy to phone back or send an email with an update about what's happening.

Going from 'We'll try to get you in for an interview tomorrow; I'll phone you back tonight' to silence shows no respect for the applicant.
