The counsellors are treated very badly here. They are only paid 80 cents an hour and are encouraged to donate a large part of that salary to the camp. They work 23 hours a day, sometimes 24. If they get sick or injured they are told to keep working unless their condition is so critical that they can't. They are also instructed to prevent kids from calling home if they feel homesick or are having a bad experience, to preserve the camp's reputation.
