We have been on Lake Lanier for four years. Our original home was at the end of a quiet cove. Even so, we wanted to make sure the dock we bought would last for many years. We looked at painted steel, aluminum and finally, a galvanized steel dock from Browns Bridge.
We did not feel comfortable with the painted steel options due to the upkeep and how the ones we observed on the lake did not look like they were holding up well. We looked at the aluminum docks which were very nice. Talking to the aluminum dock manufacturers alone would convince you that the entire market is moving that direction and it has simply replaced steel. However, I have an engineering degree and understand how materials fatigue. Aluminum simply does not fatigue as well as steel and I wanted to make sure I was buying for the long term. As I researched more, it was not hard to find anecdotal evidence of aluminum docks locally that had weld and other fatigue failures within a few years of being built.
Another interesting thing that happened to me was once I got down to a quote from the aluminum dock manufacturer and my Browns Bridge dock quote I shared with each manufacturer that I was at my decision point. I did not share the quotes with the other manufacturer. Brandon from Brown's Bridge shared the value of their product and stood by their price. The aluminum dock manufacturer immediately dropped their price 15%.
The final result was I paid 30% more for the Browns Bridge galvanized steel dock. It was 1000% the right decision. We were fortunate enough to upgrade our home to a house on a point. While the view and the house are amazing, we deal with a lot more boat traffic as our new cove is one of the best for wake boarding and wake surfing. The new house actually had a two year old dock from the other manufacturer. It was nice and high quality. However, it lacked the anchor poles that Brandon recommended for our Browns Bridge dock. We switched the docks before putting our old house on the market. The buyer of our old house got a great dock for the quiet cove, but that dock would have never held up in the new location like our Browns Bridge dock has.
While the quality has been top notch, the service from Brown's Bridge has been even better. Brandon is as honest as they come and someone I can dialogue with to get the best solution. He built a customer handrail for us so our grandparents could access the water better. We bought a Browns Bridge boat lift for our wakeboard boat because of the unquestioned quality of construction. While we had problems with the control unit, Brandon sent his team to fix it and wound up replacing the control unit completely. I am using them to do additional projects and upgrades. I cannot recommend them highly enough. While I won't put my number here Brandon has it and I would be glad to speak with any prospective customer by phone.
