Vangelina Woodhams Review of Ronald McDonald House Charitie...

3 stars for the organization but have experienced one staff member who complained frequently about a family (low income) who was staying while their daughter was being treated for a rare incurable bone marrow disease called DKC. The family also has a son age 3 with autism. So as you can imagine the family along with others have much to deal with. Everything was great with them and they developed friendships with other families during their stay (4-6 months of treatment). However one staff member continuously has issues with the little boy..going as far as lieing about him being uncontrollably wild and unattended/supervised. The family finally had called a meeting with head organizers and their case worker. The complaints stopped shortly after. A month later this same staff member filed a complaint with CPS and organization leaders claiming their daughter placed a plastic bag over her head while sitting in a stroller and sat with the bag over her head for 2 minutes! Now the daughter was just discharged from CCH After a couple months of treatment, bone marrow therapy, PT, OT and a port insert. This child can barely lift her arms due to the discomfort of the port, she also has classic Autism motor skills ( she bounces, thrashes and constantly rubs her hands together) she thrashes and bounces so much that she hurt herself on the rails of the hospital crib to which they had to insert padding! During the times of the complaint the family had visitors (grandfather and uncle) visiting from out of state to which they were present at every moment and state they never witnessed anything the staff member claimed. The family was devastated at the constant complaints! The hospital Drs, nurses, administration, therapists and social worker all evaluated the children and complaints and all agreed that the staff member who filed the complaints clearly had some sort of grudge against the family..maybe because they are mixed race, or young or maybe because they are low income or maybe they do not understand children with autism?? Thank God for the hospital staff and those who deal with the family moved them into a hotel that is more comfortable and less stress and the son doesn't cry anymore about returning to the RMH because of how this staff member treated them. At this point there will be a complaint filed against the Staff member with written support of family, friends. hospital staff and witnesses. We hope this member will be removed and NEVER given the opportunity to treat another family the way they treated this Family!
