Columbia University, New York City, is a private research university located in the morning highlands of Upper Manhattan, New York City, and one of the Ivy League member schools. Columbia University was first established in 1754 under the name of King's College, in accordance with the royal charter issued by King George II of England. She is the fifth-oldest in the history of the United States and the oldest institution of higher education in New York State. It is also one of the colonial colleges established before the publication of nine American Declarations of Independence.
