Braulio Hernandez Review of FLVS

So I see a lot of parent reviews, but I'm a student, and I would like to give some first hand account on my FLVS experience. I started FLVS Flex over 2 years ago due to extracurricular activities taking up a lot of my school time. My personal opinion is that any student who doesn't strive in FLVS, is simply because they are not on top of their education as much as they should be. I've taken many classes, and of course every teacher is different, but they all treat you fairly, they grade your work in a timely manner, and personally, they respond communication back very quickly. Most of them, will even reply to me during the weekend. I've had math teachers that have sat with me for as long as necessary in a whiteboard to explain a certain concept I didn't understand.
That said, the truth is, teachers have many students, and just like in regular school, it is your responsibility to stay on top of your work and school track. If you don't understand something, don't just take the test, fail, and blame it on the curriculum or the teacher. You have ENDLESS resources available - and speaking of the curriculum, if you a actually dedicate the time you should to reading the material, it should be pretty straight forward. No, nothing is "dumbed down", you do need to study and read a lot. Its pretty easy to get lost in course material, but like I said, you need to make the time that is realistic for a given lesson.
Yes, sometimes the essays will take 2 or 3 days to come back graded, but in public, they'll take a week... or longer. These teachers are not robots! I saw someone around here say that their teacher took a month to grade an assignment. I've had MANY teachers and that's never happened to me, but then again, I check my grade book every time I login to the class and call/text them if I see something is wrong. COMMUNICATION IS KEY.
In between a busy schedule, sometimes being in different time zones, my teachers would make accommodations to complete monthly calls etc. What I love is that no matter where you are, all you need is your laptop and and internet connection. I've done school in my room, backyard, a plane, airports and countless other places.
Recently, I fell very sick, and with the help of my teachers, I accommodated school in between months of hospital visits, appointments, surgeries and much more.
In a nutshell, with FLVS you are the one who defines your experience. I have friends, also in FLVS, who don't login for weeks at a time, submit work whenever they want and don't even look at the lessons. Then they blame their teachers ... the same thing happens in public school.
Anyways - I was actually trying to login to my course and came upon these reviews. I'll get back to my work now. Hope this helps somebody!
