Tevin P Review of HackerYou

I have recently just completed the Summer 2018, Part-time JavaScript Course and I d have to say that 6 weeks is really not enough. Felt like there was a lot to process and by the time the material tarts to sit in, the course is done. Cest la vie.
HackerYou has a very welcoming environment filled with a community of people who just want to push you and see you succeed. I found the javascript class to be difficult, as it required a major change of thinking to solve my problems. Luckily, it was easy to get help from my teachers, mentors and from recent HY grads.
HackerYou also provides an open and calm learning space, to be able to do some work. With the soft couches and kitchen area, it gives a home feel. When I have troubles with my work I found myself look out the large window to center my thoughts. The large window gives a good view of the surrounding area. There is always music playing, most would think that to be a distraction but it was of an incentive to keep working.
Like with most schools, the part time Javascript program required us to complete projects. The further into the course we got, it felt like we could do anything. The only limits we had were by how much of the material we understood and how much time we put into the projects. I personally found the projects to be fun but did feel a tad overwhelming at first.
Doing a class like this really pushes you to commit time and effort into studying, so you don t feel left behind. That itself wold be hard with the notes always being available as well as having access to communication with the mentors and teacher. This really saved me I a lot of cases. Although we have access the course notes, I found it to be easier when you hear from someone else.
My time in the HackerYou part-time Javascript course has taught me to be more literal in my web development work . It has also taught me the importance of making app that would be
helpful to everyone. After HackerYou, I intend to keep working on my skills in Javascript and get reacquainted with an old friend, HTML/CSS.
