Utter disbelief about the experience I had at the Northeast Animal Shelter today. I've wanted my own dog for the past two years and finally decided that now was the perfect time since I have a month off of work. After falling in love with a couple of little guys online, my boyfriend and I made the hour long drive, ecstatic to finally be adopting a dog of our own. We visited all three of the rooms holding the dogs and walked to the front desk, excited to visit with two dogs in particular. We were turned away immediately after sitting down with an adoption counselor because we were possibly moving in a month. I'm a long time supporter of shelters, having volunteered at multiple locations and donating annually. I hate to give any shelter a bad review, but I'm an experienced dog owner who would had provoded one of these pups with a wonderful home. Instead I was left walking out in tears. I sincerely hope this review only helps the shelter change their practices to avoid dismissing wonderful forever homes for dog that need them so badly.
