We bought tickets in advance because I was afraid of long lines but it really was not that crowded on a Thursday afternoon. The reserved ticket bound us to visiting on a particular day which felt like a tight constraint to me. My son and I liked the experience. You get to go to two different observation areas. One is inside and one outside.
