Our friends who live in Vicenza took us on a day of wineries tour. They usually try different local wines in restaurants and once they find the one they like a lot they locate a vineyard it came from and visit it. So our winery line up was not random, but rather their Top 5 list for that area. Secondo Marco (or According to Marco) was an elusive one on the list. The hours of that place are a well guarded secret. Our friends tried to stop by over there 4 times previously and it was always closed. But this time we got lucky!
There was just one car parked outside of the building, but the door was open. So we yelled "Buongiorno" and a man came out. He spoke very good English and asked us if we'd like a tour of the winery. Of course we did! He took us downstairs in the climate controlled room with multiple barrels of different sizes, metal cisterns and concrete tanks(!). He said they prefer to use these concrete tanks for their wine fermentation rather than more traditional stainless steel. Supposedly concrete produces a "truer taste of the vineyard".
After that we went upstairs into a cozy tasting room. It was decorated with black and white artistic photo portraits of Marco and his 2 sons. We tasted 5 different wines and Amarone from 2011 was my favorite!
