I value the police force but cannot understand the...

I value the police force but cannot understand the policy of no one covering an officer's case load when that officer is off work for an extended period. I updated an incident report on Aug 14 and learned that the officer handling the case is out until Aug 28---with no one covering for him. Clearly crooks don't go on vacation to complement an officer's schedule. How many cases go cold or are never solved because officers are out weeks at a time with no continuity of case coverage?
