I attended the New Years Eve gala at the fantasyland hotel. The price tag was 160$ plate. For that price tag, We shared a small table with 10 people with very little elbow room. There were no drinks included with the tickets, not even bubbly at the end of the night. Wine was 32$/bottle and up, champagne was 40-80/bottle (henkell trossen or mumms). Beer was 8$ bottle. The food came in 4 courses. Sweet potato soup was not bad, the salad presentation was ok, the chicken breast was bland, and the chocolate moose was a delight however it's hard to mess up chocolate moose. The tables were packed close enough together so passing people without interrupting the the meal, which were not timed to allow time to enjoy the show which was 1 retired circle de Soleil performer, a dance troop of kids from Sherwood park, and a couple of gymnasts. The silent auction had items that were not worth what was being asked and of no real Interest to most people. The music was by a wedding DJ who refused to take requests. So all things considered. 2 tickets +2 bottles of wine + 1 bottle of sparkling wine= 424$ before taxes. While I am not opposed to spending money for a good time, I expect a certain level of quality in presentation, service, and food. We could have gone to any keg/sawmill/Ruth's Chris steakhouse in the city, and gone to a show and a dance for far less and painted the town a much more brilliant red.
