My experience with CAP was not that great. The interview was going good until I let them know that my son had Sensory Processing Disorder. Then all of a sudden it was" Well we don't know when you will get a call . But the good news is , is that you don't have to renew your application till 2017." I asked if my son would even be considered now for the program and I was told "Well its not easy for us to place kids like that."
It was like a slap in the face . I'm used to that from daycares and people in public, but I was not expecting it from CAP . I heard great things about it from other people, but there kids are not special needs and do not the extra help.
My advice would be DO NOT tell them if your child is a delayed . Once they are in then you take in your paper work from the diagnoses. By law they have to have atleast 10% of the kids with special needs and IEPs .
Cap if you really are here to help the community start by helping the families with special needs . Special needs children are just as important.
They are part of the community, don't just spout off about helping and turn your back on the ones that need the help.
I was fortunate to have Sooner Start help me get my son into a TPS program for 3 yr. Olds that are developmentally delayed. Say what you want about TPS they were the ones that lent me a hand and actually called me and set up a meeting with me . I was not shunned like I was at CAP .
