I made a reservation and realized I had to cancel ...

I made a reservation and realized I had to cancel the reservation the same day I made it. I was well outside of the 30 day cancelation policy date . The hotel staff was completely un helpful in accommodating the cancelation request. They didn't answer my emails or even pick up the phone when I called.. I think the service from this hotel is absolutely horrible. Is there policy to simply take your deposit by not ancering the phone or retiring your email ?
