Junk Mail Review of Starlite Urban Drive In

I really wish I could provide a great review. I could have a year ago when this drive-in was still in Austin. I am not sure what really happened, but it looked like the owners may not have been able to stay in Austin with the cost and decided to move this "drive-in theater" to their backyard. Yes this is in someone's backyard, right next to other houses. The new lot is way smaller than the old space.
I am not even sure where to begin. Bought tickets online that included a smores package and some other things. We showed up and a ton of people parked at the entrance (which could have easily been passed by) and walked up. We were told that we did not pay a drive-in fee. Ummmmm then don't call yourself a Drive-In theater, please... We had to then give another $10 to drive our car in to an empty dirt backyard. The screen is just a blow up screen that is not high enough if a large car were to park in front of you. Luckily there were not many people there at all, and they were considerate to not park in front of us to block our view.
Then the movie started 1 hour past the posted start time. We literally watched 1 hour of old consession stand ads. One or two is cute, but an hour???? Come on. Maybe previews, funny clips, something else??
After the movie started we got huge bags of the saltiest popcorn ever. It was chapping my lips and barely could eat it. Then we got a beet and cider at $16. Then we finally went for our smores, which were advertised like you got a single burner. No, it was a fire pit in the back of the lot by the person's house that barely had any fire. Did we mention that we could not hear and barely see our movie while we had to try to roast our marshmallows? So yes, it is $10 for 4 crackers to make 2 sandwiches, 2 marshmallows and two very small chocolate pieces.
You are not a luxury theater. You cannot charge those prices for your backyard movie screen.
Lastly, we were given instructions that we could not make any noise and no barking dogs... The owner of this property had a dog that barked almost the entire movie. We could heard it the while time. Ugh. Oh yes, and a train comes by and honks every once in a while. I have lived by the tracks before, but not during a movie.
We really used to love coming here when it was in Austin and felt like a true drive-in. We cannot pay to come into your backyard. Your poor neighbors. Cannot imagine what they are dealing with.
I would be surprised if this lasts. Maybe with feedback they can improve somehow???
I really hate giving bad reviews, but I would have wanted to know before going.
