As a former nurse at the University of Chicago I would like to add this is a horrible place to work. I had 5 call offs due to either myself or my children being sick and running fevers as we passed around a horrible upper respiratory infection. I stayed home to ensure it wasn t covid and wanted to ensure the safety of the patients we served. Not only was I discriminated against for my call offs and treated poorly, I was eventually fired for reaching out to HR to ensure my manager was following policy by writing me up for calling off sick during a pandemic as we were instructed via several emails. This made me question the hospital as a whole and if they were truly concerned for the safety of their patients. This incident was very upsetting because as my daughter was a former patient this is where her cancer was treated and I thought very highly of this hospital and it s employees. So much so, I even let it slide when they read us the wrong CT results and let us go for 2 weeks thinking she was cancer free, when in fact she was not! I valued the nurses and doctors so much that I overlooked the huge mistake. Had I know then what I know now I would have held them accountable for their mistake as I was treated so poorly as an employee. I have lost all faith in this hospital and will no longer take my daughter here for her treatments.
