A couple of years ago, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child. Beautiful Gracey Rose. She told me that I had to stop drinking if I was going to be in my granddaughter s life. I wasn t prepared for how hard it would be. I went into rehab, came out and relapsed 4 times in 10 months. I felt horrible when I relapsed, so I d tell myself that I d go on one last binge and start all over. My granddaughter is now 17 months old and before A Better Today, I had only met her twice. I decided to give sobriety one more try before giving up. and that s basically because I just needed a place to spend the night. Full nights of sleep in a warm bed were far and few between by then. Fortunately, she found A Better Today for me. I went through treatment again, but this time it was different. I realized that I also suffer from Bipolar Disorder II, which was making it harder for me to quit drinking because when I felt bad, I drank. The difference was that they treated co-occurring disorders and they have a strong independent living program. I ve never been sober for this many days in a row (151 and counting!) and I don t think I could ve accomplished it without A Better Today Recovery Services and their amazing counselors. Thank you, Charles and everyone in the inpatient program. You saved this happy grandpa s life.
