Do not stay at this hotel. Just don't even bother. You'd get a better night's sleep at a hostel for a fraction of the cost.

Everything went wrong on this stay from the first moment on. I walked in and asked the doorman where reception was, and he gave me a long look and asked me in a very condescending tone if I were checking in. While waiting in line to do so, I could feel him watching me, and I was honestly concerned that he would kick me out before I could check in. Please keep in mind that I had come straight from the office and was still wearing professional clothing, and this isn't exactly a 5-star facility.

When I got to my room, I immediately noticed the broken privacy lock, some serious wear and tear in the furniture (the chair beside the desk was falling apart), and the worn wallpaper, but I was willing to excuse that because I was aware that this hotel was below my usual standards. What I could NOT accept was the bed itself.

The mattress had two permanent divots on either side from the thousands of people who've slept on it before. PERMANENT. VISIBLE. DIVOTS. The springs were all bad, and unless I managed to slip into the exact spot previous visitors slept in, I couldn't sleep at all. Do you know how ancient a mattress has to be for it to do that?? I had a mattress for over ten years that didn't have a dip like that. It was in an utterly unacceptable condition. The one thing I need in a hotel room is a decent bed, and this hotel couldn't even provide that. When I asked to change rooms, I was declined (they were fully booked, and the receptionist who answered the phone that night was very short with me and offered no apologies), but when I informed management, their response was to tell me that the mattress was "a bit dated."

I honestly could've stayed at a hostel for a fifth of the cost of this hotel and gotten a better bed than that one. I have never, EVER, slept on something that was of such a poor quality, and I paid $250 for the privilege.

I will give credit to the receptionist in the morning, who was horrified when I told her about the condition of the room. She arranged for me to get a free breakfast, which I appreciated. However, she seems to be the only one who cared about the awful night I had.

My advice? Stay ANYWHERE ELSE. Sleep on a park bench if this is your only option. You'll be about as comfortable, for a lot less. If I could give it negative stars, I would.
