The San Diego Zoo is easily one of the best zoos in the country - and their deep commitment to animal welfare is very apparent the moment you step foot in the park.

As expected, food, beverages and souvenirs are very pricey. You are allowed to bring your own food, however - they have picnic tables outside the zoo for people to enjoy. If you're a local, I highly recommend getting annual passes. It's the cheaper option if you plan on attending regularly.

One thing to note - there is A LOT of uphill walking at the zoo. Take your time, and plan your visit before you go. You are unlikely to see the entire zoo in one trip - it's that vast. However, it's one of the best attractions in San Diego and well worth a trip!
