Last night, 3/23/2013, we spent almost 12 hours at McLeod ER. We arrived at 6 pm, waited 7 hrs to be seen. We watched countless people who did not seem to have any illness go in and out all night. When we asked the registration lady what was taking so long she told me that since we had a more urgent illness we required to be seen by a doctor instead of the nurse practitioner like the other people we had been seeing go in and out. I've never been to an ER where they take the less urgent ppl back first just because they can be seen quicker. That was the stupidest thing I'd ever heard. Well as we waited a few more hours my father in law (who we were there with) started having symptoms that were worse and more frequent than when we had arrived. I asked the lady again if he could revisit the triage nurse because of this. The nurse came over and asked what was wrong, said she would find out how much longer it would be and NEVER came back. 3 hours later another lady came to check on us and my father in law asked her again how much longer and she rudely told him "You were already told its because you have to see a dr" and stomped off. The rest of our wait time we watched through the glass as these ladies sat on their butts point at my father in law and whispering to each other, which is rude and unprofessional. When he was finally taken back at 1 am he was put in this ittty bitty room and it was FREEZING in there. I went out and asked the nurse for a blanket and when i went to go back into the room i heard her behind my back "these people need to make up their minds hot then cold then hot then cold" at this point i had to fight the urge to slap the woman. The dr came around an hr later (she was great, nice change) when she left she sent the nurse in to do discharge, it took them 2.5 hrs to bring in discharge papers. I know they weren't waiting on anything like lab results and such because out of the drs mouth she already had all that information and she told me discharge shouldn't take more than 30 minutes. Also while we were waiting on the dr to come I went and got my family some dinner since we'd been waiting so long and when I came back the registration lady hit me up for some of the food i brought back. Majority of the people we came into contact with were very rude and unprofessional and the level of care was sooooo ridiculous. I imagine if you were there for no serious reason you'd be ok but I would NEVER go back with anything that could be life threatening. Also just for the record my father in law symptoms were very much in line with a possible stroke. And we still waited 7 hrs to see someone.
