This place gets pretty busy, but if you can get there in the early morning hours it is much less crowded. I recommend purchasing a membership if your children enjoy visual stimulation and hands on experiences. You can touch sting rays, jelly fish, small sharks, sea stars, sea cucumbers, anemones, etc.. You can also feed the lorikeets by purchasing a small nectar cup for $4. There is a cafe and a snack bar inside the aquarium if you get hungry or you can eat at many of the restaurants within a few steps of the aquarium. There is a well stocked gift shop by the entrance and a small gift stand outside. Restrooms are usually clean and there are plenty of places to wash your hands or sanitize them. Don't forget to validate your parking ticket and pay only $8 for the day. If you are a member you can pay $20 for 5 parking passes.
