I owned a company that used Berkley Risk for workers compensation coverage. I will make this as short as I can. They treated us with contempt every time we interacted with them. My local insurance agent continuously apologized to me saying everyone knew Berkley was a pain and no one liked working with them. Their business was more focused on getting as much money as possible from us as quickly as possible rather then treating us like they wanted us as a long term customer. The last straw was when they changed our plan without talking with us and demanded we pay forward for the rest of the year. That would of essentially been the third down payment they wanted from us in one year. We had originally agreed to pay 30% down and pay monthly after that. The way they let us know they changed our plan was by sending a "you have 30 days to comply or your plan will be cancelled" letter. Without workers compensation we would have been non-compliment with government regulation. I was tired of running my business in fear of Berkley so we left them.

To clarify, we never made a workers compensation claim to Berkley. All our trouble with them came from regular business interactions. I could not imagine how horrific actually trying to process a claim would have been.
