TL:DR - You get what you pay for.
TL:DR - You get what you pay for.
I've been a client here for more than 5 years. When thinking about the service, I always consider the fact that 1) it is a school where people are learning how to do what I ask and 2) the cost of the services is deeply discounted because of #1. I usually spend about $35 on a routine color and now that I have the VIP Membership, I pay half that. I'd pay at least $65 at a regular salon for a root touch up.
I've had mixed results over the years - never a bad service, just some really great stylists and some who didn't listen so well. The best ones have usually been close to graduating the program, and I've learned how to express my ideas so my stylists understand what I want. So over the last year, I've always been happy with the services. As Mind-Reading is not part of the course instruction, clients need to be prepared to speak up if they think something isn't right or if they have a particular way they want something done - for me: sensitive head, specific method of blow dry, and not using styling products. In the washroom, if it feels like your stylist has not rinsed the dye from the hair by your neck, you have to speak up. If after the job is over, if you don't feel like the result is what you wanted, you have to be willing to say (in a polite way!), "This isn't what I asked for." You have to be willing to speak with a learning leader and maybe return within the next couple of days if needed. If this kind of close attention to detail is not what you envision for your hair appointment, then the school and its prices are not for you. I personally wouldn't pay to go elsewhere and don't fancy cleaning up the mess after doing it myself at home.
