Adeline Ho Review of Yauatcha

I came here with company for a pre-theatre dinner. As a dim sum lover, I must say I came with high expectations, but it's sad to say that we left feeling rather dissatisfied with our food. We ordered steamed barbecue pork buns, king crab dumplings, soft shell crab, and scallop siew mai. The baos were filled with very little pork, king crab dumplings and scallop siew mai not particularly tasty, and the soft shell crab a remarkably small portion for the price we paid. I have to admit that they did justice to the soft shell crab though. For dessert, we had the Jasmine mousse which I found pleasant and interesting.
What made me unhappy was the fact that I was told we could only choose to tip the full service charge or none at all, which made me a little uncomfortable because while I was not accustomed to paying 9 pounds worth of service charge, I also felt like it was not right of me to pay nothing for the service.
All in all... it's a nice experience, but I wouldn't recommend this one-michelin star restaurant to serious dim sum lovers. An average restaurant in Hong Kong could do better.
