I was involved in a motorcycle accident on I-10 on Halloween after being cut off by a vehicle. I locked my front brakes and ended up flying (literally) over the handle bar, landing on my face (no. I was not wearing a helmet). I was transported to a civilian hospital via ambulance due to my injuries (blow out of the orbital bone).

Two surgeries later my vision on my left eye has not been restored and I m still fighting with the Veterans Administration (VA) as they originally referred me to a plastic surgeon instead of an eye surgeon. I ve been waiting for a second referral for an eye nerve and muscle specialist for over a week with constant calls, faxes and e-mails on a daily basis to no avail.

Yesterday I received a letter from the VA stating, they will not cover my visit to the civilian hospital as I did not obtain prior approval and the treatment received was, non-emergent , meaning it was not an emergency.

VA, giving our veterans a second chance to die for their country
