Review of Audi Plano

I needed a car. I was selling a Volkswagen diesel ...

I needed a car. I was selling a Volkswagen diesel back and it could be scheduled at any time. I submitted a request through an online car buying service and got quotes from a few dealerships in the Dallas area. Audi of Plano was one of those dealerships and they had the car I was interested in. I saw a lot of five star ratings on this dealership and wondered if this was too good to be true. I knew that I would be driving from Oklahoma to Plano since our nearest Audi dealership had failed to follow through on getting the car from another dealership. I had my son, who lives in the area, stop by to look at the car. He had a good time with the salesman that he talked with, JB, because the salesman that I had been in contact with was busy. He called me to let me know that the car was nice and the dealership was nice as well. I emailed the salesperson the next morning (Thursday) at 8:00 and said I was interested in the car. I had not heard anything by 11:00 so I sent a text. We emailed back and forth until I heard back from him at 11:30 and I asked him to send me some numbers that I could take to my credit union. He said he would need a few moments to get some numbers back to me. When I had not heard anything by 3:00 I emailed and asked what he had found out. Reply, unfortunately that car sold a few hours ago . I forwarded the string of emails to the general manager expressing my concern that moments turn into hours during which the vehicle was sold. I heard nothing back from the GM.

Next morning at 11:00 I get an email from the salesman saying he found a similar car and wanted to know if I was interested. I called the GM to ask a question. He had his sales manager call me back. I expressed to him that I did not have a lot of trust in the salesman that I was in contact with and he reassured me that he was one of their best, had been really busy the day before, sold three cars, etc. and reassured me that there was no problem. On this day, on this car, suddenly I am told that I can reserve the car online so it will be held for me; I get the numbers within moments, everything seems to provide assurance that I am not taking a great risk to drive to Plano to get the car for my scheduled appointment the next day at 1:30. Why does my stomach not feel better?

I get to the dealership, meet the salesman, drive the car, and fill out some paperwork. Here comes the finance guy to inform me that there are additional fees that I will need to pay of around $300. This is where their No Haggle comes into play. The reason they don t haggle is because you tell them what you want and they say no . They have all of their excuses and defenses down pat. It s like a group of robotic employees that have been programmed to argue. The salesperson that I worked with was particularly defensive and overly sensitive, at one point even stating, It s not my fault.

I ended up buying the car (because I needed a car) and getting on the road. The good news is that the car is very nice. I laughed to myself at several points in this process (because it is good to maintain a sense of humor in these circumstances). Several employees at the dealership said No one buys a car in December. That is funny; someone walked in here between 11:30 and 3:00 on Thursday and bought the car that I was trying to buy. Coincidence I am sure. I was trying to assess during the whole process whether I would or under what circumstances I would recommend this dealership to someone else. If you want a car and you intend to write a check for it, make an appointment and go. You should be just fine. If you are the kind of person that does careful research, gets a quote up front, performs due diligence in assessing the dealership, really wants the General Manager to return your call when you have an issue, hopes that everything will go according to plan, and hates to argue, wants to have the $30 piece that fits in the space where the front license goes, then you should go to another dealership and have them get the car for you.
