Star Chacko Review of Castle Hotel & Spa

For $300 per night, this hotel is a disappointment.
Really, this is a 3-star hotel AT BEST wearing a 4-star outfit with the exterior being a castle on a hill.
In early March 2018, we stayed here two nights. We moved here from the Marriott Courtyard in Tarrytown, which was far worse. So, this might very well be the best that Tarrytown has to offer. :( I m giving this a 2-star review because the average rating is way too high.
PROS: Nice staff, clean facilities, decent bed, spacious room. Dresser with LOTS of drawers so you can really unpack, plus that extra mirror and counter space let me put on my makeup outside of the bathroom so my husband could use the bathroom area for his own getting ready.
CONS: The bathroom is super basic. No garden tub, and cheap white tile. OLD carpet, with stains but no bad smell. Tiny TV for the size of the room (maybe 30 ). Wish the hotel had provided binoculars to watch it. Really that size of a room needs a 50 tv minimum. Not enough plugs. I had to hunt around the room for a plug for my technology items and the plugs were not placed well in the room. Lots of lights when you slept - like really bright alarm clock and many lights just on the ceiling and stuff. Hard to get a really good darkness in the room. Small windows so we could not enjoy the view, which is a shame since you are on a beautiful hilltop.
VALET PARKING ONLY: This could be a pro or a con, depending on who you are. Every time we had to go somewhere, it s like we have to bother this guy and do we have to tip every time? I m not sure. Then just the fact that you have to wait just to get your car. IDK.
SO-SO ROOM SERVICE: We ordered room service 3 times. 2 dinners and a breakfast. First time, it was off the standard room service menu for dinner. The items were ok, and the French fries arrived cold and soft. The next morning, for breakfast, we ordered a salmon egg Benedict. It was fully terrible, and we didn t even eat it because the fish smelled bad and the white parts of the egg were not fully cooked, so it was like mucus. The last meal we ordered was dinner, and instead of ordering off the room service menu, we ordered from the restaurant menu and had that sent. THAT was the way to do it - we got roasted duck, venison, and brussel sprouts that were to die for. I m pretty sure that last meal was over $100 but frankly it was really stellar and worth that money. Those items also traveled well to the room (ie. The brussel sprouts maintained their crispness.)
I probably would not stay here again.
