Review of The Brown Hotel

The Brown is a piece of history. It's easy access to everything downtown and very tastefully decorated. The rooms are a little on the small size but plenty big enough so I didn't feel cramped. Everything is moderately upgraded with outlets, working WiFi (slow, but good enough for light use), plenty of (pokey, but running) elevators, etc. I found the service in Louisville as a town to be grandly lacking. Most Southern cities have caught on. They don't seem to have. The Brown has better service than most of the restaurants and event spaces there that I experienced, so by Louisville standards I guess it's pretty good. By my normal standards it's poke-your-eye-out-with-a-pencil slow and daft. I worked and managed in the service industry for a while and I found myself thinking I'd fire pretty much every bartender and server. Without experiencing the town I would've thought the service at The Brown was quaint and painfully lagging. With the whole experience, I'm glad that at least they had decent service. I attended a wedding as part of my stay and I felt like it was their first ever wedding on site. Do try the Hot Brown at the restaurant. It's the local tradition that they invented. Even if you're a healthy eater, consider splitting it with someone as it's very heavy. Delicious, but the kind of thing you need a nap after.
