Paul Krevs Review of Residence Inn Uptown

Quick suggestion for you as a frequent traveller. There are at least five other Marriott/SPG properties within a 10-15 minute walk from this hotel. Including two brand-new ones. They're all priced about the same. Give them a whirl instead. We didn't have that great of an experience.
1) Even though the hotel barely had any guests the night we were there, we received a small room on the backside of the hotel on a mid level floor. Hallways were dimly lit and the room, although recently renovated, looked like it had received some new carpet and a few other furnishings, but there were lots of signs of wear and tear.
2) There is a major rail line behind the parking garage on the backside of the hotel. We heard trains rumble by all night.
3) At 6:45am construction started on the parking garage and didn't allow us to sleep for the rest of the night. Temporary for sure, but we weren't told anything about it.
4) I didn't find the bed that comfortable.
Here are the positives:
1) If the wind is right you could probably spit on the ballpark or football stadium from your room
2) It's located on the edge of the best part of Charlotte. We walked into the core for dinner through a great park right across the street.
3) Ample parking and the included breakfast seemed alright.
