Hello fellow lovers of the arts and natural world.
Went to Francis Hodgkins: European Journeys - Sad to see everyone forgot she was a gay!!!
Wonderful paintings though - marvellous to see her amongst her european peers but maybe we should interrogate how we frame our artistic ancestors. Eg. Maybe she could of been shown next to contemporary NZ painters - i can think of more than a handful who have been heavily influenced by her style...
Loved exiting through a gift shop - feel like maybe your idea of a public is just boomers with money though? Like i'm pretty old but i'm still interested in the now.
