Emily Shen Review of TimeOut Chicago

There are few things that make Time Out Market a standout, such as the eclectic space and variety of high-profile Chicago restaurants all in one space. However, the cons outweigh the pros here and will keep me from coming back.
For one, prices are very high, portions are small, and there's no way of checking online to see the menu and prices beforehand. The dishes I got were small, and based on that, I'd recommend getting 2-3 dishes per person, which comes out to be $25-35 minimum, excluding drinks. The food IS very good, but prices are upcharged, so you're paying MORE without the restaurant experience/service. For example, the Mini Mott burger we got at Time Out was $13, and only $10 at their restaurant. The Art of Pizza was $8 at market, $4 in restaurant. Secret Sound drinks were $15 at market, $13 at Lost Lake.
For food, I admit that the Mini Mott burger was one of the best burgers I've ever had, and would definitely come back to eat this. I also got Abe Conlon's bread with olive oil (airy and flavorful but small) and Bill Kim's caramelized pork dumplings (too salty and also small). We didn't bother to get water for our meal, but it shouldn't have been out of sight. My verdict is to come with low expectations and be ready to spend a lot, otherwise leave disappointed.
