Regardless of how you feel about Trump, his acquisition of Turnberry and consequent major refurbishment has undoubtedly benefitted the venue, it's customers and many local employees. Not everyone realises that well before Trump, Turnberry has had a spectacular history, boasting visits from many famous and super wealthy individuals from around the world. All of this, including the golf course itself and the variety of privileged clientelle that appeared to be quite preoccupied with their sense of entitlement was all irrelevant to me when we decided to book Sunday lunch for 4 about 8 weeks in advance. As it turns out, Sunday lunch at Turnberry is extremely popular and when we finally arrived (mid Novemember) I could see why. The starter buffet selection was of the highest quality that I'd seen outside of Michelin star venues that would be the only fair comparison. The food all tasted great and the volume available bordered on obsene, in a good way if you're a hungry customer. The staff were all friendly, welcoming and helpful and the views from the top of the hill are absolutely striking. My only misgiving is the few customers who seem to think that their very existence affords them the right to behave in the kind of self inflated and pompous manner of snobbery that only elitist garbage are capable of. Luckily, they didn't spoil it for everyone else, who behaved like normal, civilised human beings. Overall, the lunch was lovely and very memorable. We came out absolutely stuffed. If you want to make a special occassion of lunch, this is one of the best ways you could do it. If you are fortunate enough to be able to book Sunday Lunch, much less afford it, even if you only do it once every couple of years, this is a good call! It's not going to give the likes of Brian Maule a run for his money but its still a fine dining experience that get's 5 stars from me.
