We moved from Chennai to Ahmedabad recently. And we were regulars at Fortune Chennai (Gopalpuram). 'Earthen Oven' was our favourite place.

Thinking that 'Earthen Oven' in Fortune Landmark Ahmedabad too is the same brand, we booked a table on Sunday (June 9, 2019) and went in fond hope of enjoying a good meal. Our family of three was in for a rude shock.

The restaurant on the ninth floor of Fortune Landmark Ahmedabad gave the feeling and look of a graveyard. That was the first impression and feeling. at 1.45 PM, there was none in the restaurant. The menu card was in a dilapidated condition (the plastic of the lamination was giving way in all the menu cards we were handed to choose!). We were told that the menu and offerings are the same everywhere in India. The reality was otherwise. We asked for the Lunch platter that is offered in Chennai and were told that it is not possible to do for 2 or 3 guests. he chairs we sat were creeking and had to be changed for that brief while we were there. The staff gave a feeling that we were the first visitors to the restaurant in many days. That was the last time we decided we will visit Fortune in Ahmedabad. The chairs we sat were creeking and had to be changed for that brief while we were there.

Hungry, we went to the Ground Floor Coffee Shop where the team was diligent and helped us choose Ala Carte from the menu. Thanks to Mehul and Swaraj who made it very pleasant for us. And special thanks to that unsung and unseen hero in the kitchen who made that out-of-the-world Missi Roti for us. Extraordinary thanks to Sous Chef Dalveer who rounded off with Phirni (a special request despite it not being on the Menu) which was world-class.

But we vowed not to visit Earthen Oven again in Ahmedabad.
