We opted for the Teeling Select Distillery Tour and booked online in advance. When we arrived we had the opportunity to look around the historical exhibits before our tour started.

Our tour guide gave us a brief history of the Irish whiskey industry and bought us up to date with How Teeling got to where it is today. We then proceeded into another room where we watched a video on the brand from its founders.

This was followed by a wander through the distillery with a lesson on the process of turning the raw ingredients into whiskey including looking at the mash tuns and stills.

The next stage of the tour covered the ageing process including the barrel types and the influence this has on the new make spirit (poitin) for at least 3 years and one day before it can be called whiskey.

The final stage of the tour was the tasting. We got to try 4 whiskies. The small batch, the single malt, the single pot still and the single grain. My favourite was the single pot still.

Once the tour was over, we headed to the bar to try the Brabazon 01 and 02. Very interesting whiskies indeed and knowledgeable bartender. There is a large shop with great souvenirs including the exclusive 33 year old Teeling.

The tour is very professional and well put together and based on what you get to try is on a par with similar tours in the city. Our guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about the brand.

I'd say that this tour is really for those that have some interest in whiskey or like to learn about how things are made.
