The oldest public park in New York City, Bowling Green is a must-stop for anyone traveling downtown. Surrounded by huge buildings (both old and new), the feeling of Old New York really shines through. Look closely at the tops of the cast-iron fence posts (installed in 1771), and you will still see saw marks from American troops following the Revolutionary War. Each of the main posts were topped with some type of decorative British/royal object, and following the war, these offensive reminders were cut off by the Americans.
