J K Review of Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas

Honestly, we had very high expectations for two reasons. 1) It is a Waldorf Astoria, which are renowned high-class, five-star properties, and 2) the Mandarin Oriental (the previous hotel at this location that Hilton purchased) was rated the BEST hotel in Vegas for many years. Sadly, we were very disappointed in our stay here. Nothing about this hotel gave you the feeling that you were in Vegas, and, in our opinion, is the main reason you come to Vegas to begin with. The atmosphere was dead, there is no casino (which we knew), only one restaurant, and a bar that opens late in the afternoon and only starts serving appetizers at 5pm. It was simply inconvenient. There is a hotel car that the staff raves about, however, there is only ONE car, for all of the guests in the hotel so your odds of getting it are very slim. We were actually turned away from Zen Kitchen (the only restaurant) for breakfast, because it was a 30+ minute wait for two hotel guests to eat breakfast. We were also turned down at the Sky bar (they wanted to seat us in the lobby) because we didn't have reservations. I don't know of many other places (and we have traveled the world) where you need to make reservations at a bar. Additionally, they give Diamond members a $25 credit per day ($50 per couple) to spend at the hotel because there is no executive lounge or breakfast included (which there always is for Gold/Diamonds). However, you cannot use it anywhere but the restaurant or bar, both of which we could not get into..... Irony? Don't know, but what I do know is that we will not be staying here again and unfortunately it's but a bad taste in our mouth about Vegas overall.
