I was lucky enough to see Carmen, Saturday night and Sunday matinee. 3/28/15 and 3/29/15. If you were daft enough to go expecting the full on Bizet's Opera, you were probably confused. But that would have been an error on your part. This was an adaptation of "The Big Show" by Peter Brook. (All media promotions were very clear about this!) HOWEVER, if you did your homework and came with an open mind, My bet is you were WOWED! This had all of the passion and more intensity than the "Big One" Because of the intimacy of player and audience, (Without all the Chorus, Costumes etc.) it pulled you in and held tight for the entire show. In my opinion the cast / orchestra / direction was all as close to perfect as you could ask for. The change in the cast for Carmen and Jose brought a different mood to the show but I can say neither were better, both sets were amazing. The casting for Micaela and Escamillio remained the same in both productions and they were flawless. Lisa Borik's presence on stage left me wanting more of her! Bravo! And shame on anyone that went expecting this to be what is was never meant to be!
