Neltje Grandela Review of Sundance Mountain Resort
I have to start saying that this is a resort that ...
I have to start saying that this is a resort that my family and I have frequented for years. That being said, I truly believe that this resort in particular has really gone down hill (pun intended).
Here are the biggest parts of why Sundance has failed to impress.
Parking: We get it, it's growing. But the parking is ridiculous! When they direct you to the top part of parking, there isn't nearly enough room to ensure that people can park safely! There is a "skiers crossing" where cars have to wait as skiers cross. It seems like an extremely dangerous situation that Sundance overlooked in order to stuff a few more people in the resort.
Ski School: When I first took ski lessons, I LOVED ski school. The instructors were always younger college students that went above and beyond. However, my husband just took a lesson there, and it was quite a different experience. Pretty sure that the instructor had been doing drugs right before the lesson. She was gruff and did nothing to ensure that my husband's experience was enjoyable.
Season Passes: Looking for the worst part of Sundance? This is it. For a line of 6 people, it took them over an hour to get everything for people to print off their passes. There were over 5 employees stuck in a small room, and they couldn't get anything done. Pretty sure that all of the employees were hired because of their good looks--none of them knew what they were doing, and it felt like it was their first day on the job. This was extremely frustrating, especially for the individuals who had purchased everything and simply needed to get a pass printed out. They are so inefficient that they accused us of owning them $35. They checked their records again, and it ended up that they OWED US money. Their whole system is run on paper, which is probably a reason for their inefficiency.
Food: The food at Sundance is truly exceptional (I'm not talking about the cafes, or lunch places--those places are $8 burned hot dogs and $4 cups of watery hot chocolate), if you are lucky enough to enjoy food from the Tree House restaurant; do it! It is one of the few things about Sundance that I would go back for.
Overall, you get what you pay for at Sundance. It's a small resort that is literally bursting at the seems.
