Like most kids who grew up in New York City, I've always remembered this institution as the place with the giant blue whale and all the dinosaur fossils! Their special exhibits are usually a lot of fun (e.g. Brain: The Inside Story and Mythic Creatures). My favorite permanent exhibit is the "Hall of Human Origins."
