The staff is exceptionally nice but there are problems: Parking is next to impossible. If you can find a place in the structure, it is free for the first two hours then $8 a day. Period. Even if you are only a few minutes over and had spent 20 minutes finding a place. There are only a few handicap spots and they are almost always full. There is no other available parking except for some street parking a couple of blocks away which is almost always full and quite a hike up a hill to the medical center. Impossible for a wheelchair. Keck really needs to do something about the parking problem.
Also, when my husband had a procedure recently, we arrived as scheduled at 5:30am. The operation didn't begin until 10am. It ended at 2:30pm. It was 11:30pm before a room became available. Meanwhile I had waited and waited for hours. With my bad back I couldn't get comfortable. Finally when we were given a room there was no place for me to sleep (although I'd been told by the doctor's office that there would be a fold out recliner) so I ended up on two hard wooden chairs tied together with my belt, end on end, by me with pillows on top. That lasted two nights! Apparently room availability is problematic. Although I was allowed to stay, it was not as welcoming as other hospitals we'd been in in the past who provided cots for a family member and sometimes even a fridge. We had to bother the staff for what should have been available items like Ice water, towels, etc. Also the cafeteria, the only place to purchase food, is very expensive. A packaged peanut butter and jelly sandwich was almost $5, so bring your own food. Hospital stays are never pleasant but only the niceness of the staff made this one bearable.
