On our 95 family road trip to Chicago, FermiLab was one of the attractions we visited. It s in the midst of a somewhat agrarian part of Illinois, in particular a bison pasture. The particle accelerator ring lies beneath the ground, and while the bison graze in relative serenity above, the lab performs energetic experiments on the quantum level to piece together the workings of the Universe. The concourse in the building is huge with skylights stories above and offices on multiple balconied levels. I m a bit of a geek so all this interested me to no end!
