Dear readers,

Dear readers,

Please do not sign up with Pitney Bowes. There is absolutely no ROI and I will show this through a cost calculation below. In addition, it is difficult and time consuming to resolve any account issues with this company. I personally regret signing up with this company. They have cost us many hours of personnel time and have ended up costing us more per stamp, not less as they advertise.

Cost of Pitney Bowes = Stamp + Printer Ink + Rental Fee

Canada Post Stamp = $0.85 or $0.89 with 5% GST

If there was an ROI, then Pitney Bowes should come in under $0.89 per stamp.

Stamp
You are required to sign up for $400 of postage ($440 with 5% GST) and then they will give you a $200 sign up rebate. This is good for your first 500 letters. All additional postage that you purchase is at the regular rate ($0.84 / stamp).

Cost of first 500 stamps with rebate = $0.44
Cost of additional stamps = $0.84

After 8 months and multiple phone calls we have yet to receive our $200 rebate.

Printer Ink
Our ink cartridges were able to print 256 envelopes.
Ink Cartridge = $73.49 + $10.49 shipping = $83.98

Cost of ink per envelope = $83.98 ink / 256 envelopes = $0.317

First 500 Stamps + Ink = $0.44 + $0.32 = $0.76 ($0.13 less than Canada Post)
500+ Stamps + Ink = $0.84 + $0.32 = $1.16 ($0.27 more than Canada Post)

Rental Fee
Monthly rental fee = $18.85

To reduce the per stamp rental overhead you will need to print a lot of stamps. We need to get the rental fee down to $0.13 to simply break even.

Stamps to break even = $18.85 rental / $0.13 buffer = 145 stamps

Your company would need to send 145 letters per month to simply break even with Canada Post. At this rate you will use all of your rebated postage within 3.5 months. Ever subsequent month will cost you.

User Experience
This company is disorganized and are unable to resolve issues.

Pitney Bowes is a different company from Pitney Works. They work together but bill out separately. When we first signed up, Pitney Bowes did not transfer the $400 postage to our account properly, they did not give us the $200 sign up credit, they did not send us any invoice or statement showing that we had an outstanding balance, and they charged us late payments every month that we had this (unknown) balance.

From the beginning we were receiving regular invoices from Pitney Bowes and we were paying these as they came in. Since we were receiving regular invoices there was nothing that indicated to us that we had an outstanding balance with Pitney Works.

I called their support line 3 times, on average spending 1+ hours per call (including time on hold), to try and get our $200 rebate applied to our account. This issue is still unresolved. My labour having to manage the incompetencies of this company is additional overhead on our per stamp cost.

DO NOT USE PITNEY BOWES!!!

Conclusion
There is no possible way to break even on this investment. DO NOT SIGN UP. They lock you in for a 12 month contract. To get out of your contract you need to pay the balance of your rental and the shipping cost to return the equipment.

Cost of Pitney Bowes = Postage + Ink + Rental + Labour to manage this incompetent vendor.
