Building a house is an interesting ordeal, and I was extremely glad to have Steve H working on the inside to ensure that the vision we had in our head turned into the dream we now live in. To say that the whole process of building a house from first meeting to final walkthrough was painless would be a lie (anyone telling you different isn t being honest). There is no way to make something this large, come together without a few hiccups, but it s the knowledge and trust on those you are paying to work through them that makes it bearable.

We started the process of wanting to turn our dream into reality summer of 2019 and that was when we first settled on Grayhawk and met Steve. We had already purchased a lot in Harris Co and had a rough idea of what we wanted. From the initial meeting Steve was up-front, honest, and cared about what we wanted which was re-assuring. We ended up downsizing slightly from one floor plan to another after going through the initial process to allow us to stay comfortably within budget. That was a huge piece of the process that I felt was very transparent and he was great in helping us hit our number while still getting something we were excited about. He told us that while the initial layout we wanted was within budget, because he spent the time to understand what we wanted and how we were looking to customize our build, we would end up over where we wanted to be. Knowing that we looked at some other plans, picked one we liked and signed the contract.

Kristi on the design/decoration team was nothing short of amazing. We added several things that weren t quite in their standard offering, but they had done previously on occasion and it worked out great. She was able to get us the front we wanted (not a fan of brick) with some minor changes as well as working with us to rob the bathroom out of one plan and make it fit in ours (we deleted the master bathtub and went with a much larger walk in shower). Once we got everything nailed down, we got the final numbers back, right on budget and signed the contract.

Then it rained and rained and rained for 3 months, and due to the location of our site and the terrain, the amount of rain we got caused delays that no one could have anticipated. Seriously, the rain just didn t stop long enough in Nov-Jan to get much done. Finally, things got underway with construction and it goes by fast. Slab poured, framing up, trade crews in and out on a daily basis. This is where things got a little frustrating at times, but as a whole we were able to work through the issues and resolve things satisfactorily in the end.

I know many people remember the old regime of Grayhawk and how things were generally handled, and I was nervous about that going into this whole process. During the course of our build, the company was bought by an outfit off the east coast and some changes were made to the expectations and processes of building a home. I had a couple of issues that before the answer would have been the you got what you paid for you see mentioned in several other reviews.

After meeting with the new president (who had been working for Grayhawk a week at the time) my realtor and his broker to go over a couple of large issues I had left from my punch sheet at closing that had not been resolved. The shower tile floor was still crooked after being redone twice, and construction debris still left in my yard after claims they had gone through several times before to clean it. There was a discussion about how he can t change what happened prior, but he was working to make sure that the reputation they had, would not be the one they have going forward. After seeing the work happen, I have to say I hope this is the start of a new future for Grayhawk. I wish the team the best of luck in working to change the image the company has had for several years prior.
